STEM: an inside look for female students

PRESS

Today, Masmec was filled with the curiosity and energy of 150 female secondary school students from Bari and Modugno. They participated in “STEM: science, technology, engineering and mathematics – four feminine words”, an orientation event organised by Federmeccanica in collaboration with Masmec, the Mechanical Section of Confindustria Bari and BAT, and the Polytechnic of Bari.

Within STEM disciplines, the gender gap remains significant, but there are women making their mark, and they can inspire others. This was the underlying theme of today’s meeting. The girls listened to the stories of young female engineers, software developers and specialised technicians, enjoyed answering a series of quizzes, and toured our factory to see what it means to work in scientific and technological fields, regardless of gender.

We embraced this initiative because we are convinced that real experiences and examples help female students to plan their professional future, guided by their aspirations, aware of their own value and free from gender stereotypes that condition their imaginations and behaviour.
